Clothing suggestions

Tips for a great family portrait

Solid color clothing is highly recommended, so as not to detract from the expression. Please try to avoid logos or patterns. Dark tones tend to have a more dramatic, classic feel while light colors tend to look more casual and contemporary.

Feature the face. The eyes tell the real story. Wear long sleeves whenever possible and cover the knees to keep the face the center of attention. Be sure to think about the feet too. If one person has on new white tennies and the others are in dark shoes, you are going to be drawn to the feet instead of the face.

Try to schedule your session around naptimes for young children.  Select the time of day when everyone will feel their best. It’s also a good idea to bring light snacks when doing several groupings. Just be sure that the treats won’t stain clothing!
